Welcome

Roman Cobblestones
(Don & Sami here) We decided to post some of the photos from our trip and a few thoughts about the journey in a blog. That way we can easily share with friends, and they can spend as much or as little time looking at them as they desire. We saw so many things that organizing the images and memories this way allows us to reflect on everything we experienced.

So, welcome to our journey which we call "Feet On Ancient Ground" because it amazed us to think that we were standing on the ground where others stood as civilizations wove their stories and history was made. In this vein, and from the very beginning, we took "feet shots" to document our travels.

As a way to celebrate our fifty years of marriage we chose to see a bit of the world. Being OBP watchers we chose a Viking ocean cruise (Viking heavily sponsors Masterpiece Theater, a favorite of ours.) The cruise we chose was called "Cities of Antiquity and the Holy Land," partly because of my art history studies and being raised in a Christian tradition.

Mama and Papa mouse came with us. They are catching the view from our hotel window.
We left Portland on November 6th, arriving in the Eternal City, Rome, on the 7th. We spent the first two and a half days at the Grand Palace Hotel on Via Veneto, getting adjusted to the time difference and seeing Rome on foot.

First up was the Trevi Fountain. I bet one-hundred selfies a minute are taken on this spot!

Then on to the Spanish Steps and a peek into the Trinita dei Moni Church at the top.
